Beowulf Is Animated?

October 09, 2007 By: Michael Nease Category: Movies No Comments →

Ray Winstone & Anthony Hopkins in Beowulf

I guess I didn’t get the announcement, but somehow I missed the fact that the new Beowulf film starring Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins is animated. I just saw the TV trailer while watching tonight’s episode of Chuck, and couldn’t help but notice that it seemed slightly like a video game, yet still very realistic. And then I noticed another big detail I had overlooked: it’s directed by Robert Zemeckis! So, I jumped onto IMDB to check it out, and noticed that it is animated in what appears to be the same motion-capture method used in Zemeckis’ The Polar Express.

I already knew the film had an amazing cast, but this makes me want to see it even more! I’m also beginning to think I’ve been living under some rock on the other side of the world! Did anyone else miss this? I need to get back to the real world! I do know however that the movie is slated to release on the 16th of November, and that I will be at the theater watching it.

Movie Buzz: McG’ + Vin Diesel = Terminator 4?

October 08, 2007 By: Michael Nease Category: Movies No Comments →

Terminator SkeletonRumor has it that Charlie’s Angels director McG is in talks to direct the fourth installment in the Terminator Series, and it looks like Vin Diesel might be in talks to be the next Cybernetic Humanoid. I’m by far not the biggest Diesel fan, but I think a movie like this is well suited for him. Apparently the role was previously linked to Dwayne “The Rock Johnson”. As far as McG goes, I don’t really have an opinion. I’d be interested in seeing what he does with it.

The plot at least looks interesting: “After the drastic effects of Terminator 3, the story continues as John Connor and soon to be wife Kate Brewster realize they must create a resistance organization with Earth’s remaining survivors against the army of robots slowly being built up by Skynet. As they are building this resistance, one survivor happens to be a traitor in disguise, and has a secret that nobody would ever come to suspect.IMDB

Movie Thoughts - “The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising”

October 07, 2007 By: Michael Nease Category: Movies No Comments →

Alexander Ludwig

A movie has to be REALLY bad for me to not like it. I liked this movie, however it’s by far not my favorite. As a big fan of Fantasy/SciFi movies, I’ve braved through some really stupid movies, some of which can only hope to be revived through shows like Mystery Science Theater 3000 (which unfortunate for them isn’t on any more). Seeker, had the one element that I always look for when I watch a film: it entertained me.

As a filmmaker, I should probably be more critical of films like this, but the fact remains that when I go to the movies, I go to get lost in the story, and this movie did that for me. It has its moments of greatness, and its moments of “what the….?”. But altogether, the movie’s strengths won me over (Please keep in mind I’m a fan of the SciFi channel, so I have a huge tolerance level for crap movies). I really think I would have liked it a whole lot more when I was a kid though.

I gave it 5 stars out of 10. Do you blame me? I’m a sucker for movies like this.

It’s official, the fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series finally has a name:The name, was revealed yesterday by actor Shia LeBeouf during the MTV Music Awards. According to the film’s site IndianaJones.com, it will be released on Memorial Day 2008 in the U.S. and simultaneously in most territories worldwide. The film is being directed by Steven Spielberg, and according to IMDB.com, lists the cast as including: Shia LeBeouf, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, Karen Allen, Jim Broadbent and of course Harrison Ford.(Maybe it’s just me, but does anybody else think LeBeouf looks out of place? I hope that’s not his costume. This pic kind of makes him look like a fan visiting the set!)I think I’m going to be humming the Indiana Jones theme song for the next few days.Digg!

BLACK IRISH

Check out the trailer for this great new film called “Black Irish” starring Michael Angarano, Brendan Gleeson, Tom Guiry, Melissa Leo and Emily VanCamp.

I had a chance to see this film and was blown away by it’s amazing quality. If you get a chance to see this movie, do it! You won’t be sorry you did. It’s the debut film for director Brad Gann who wrote the screenplay for “Invincible”, and it recently won both the Jury Award & Audience Award at the Florida Film Festival, and picked up Best Picture, Best Actor (Angarano) and Best Supporting Actor (Gleeson) at the Method Fest Film Festival in Calabassas, CA.
